Identify features on the map

If you want to know about a feature on the map, you can get more information about it using the Identify tool Identify tool.

To identify a feature

  1. In the Toolbar, click the Identify button Identify tool. The button changes to a blue outline to indicate it is the active tool.
  2. Click on the feature you want to identify. An identify icon Map icon for identify will be placed on the map at the location clicked. The Identify Results window will appear with information about features located at the selected location.

  3. To view details (attributes) for the feature, click the plus next to the layer name. This expands the results to show the individual features. Clicking the feature item will display the attributes in the detail display on the right. The selected feature will highlight on the map.

  4. The identify results may contain hyperlinks to additional information. Click the hyperlink to open the map link in a new browser window.

  5. If you want to view the selected result in Excel, click the Export to Excel button (see graphic above). After a few moments, the following message will appear:


    Click the Open button to view in Excel.

  6. To close the identify results display and the map selection, click the close button "X" on the top right corner of the results display.
