Map Markup Tools

You can use the Map Markup tools to add custom graphics to the map display. Graphics created with the Map Markup tools will be saved by the Saved Maps Tool.

To Draw a Point

  • Select the Point option from the radio button list of graphic types.


  • Choose the marker color, size and style.


  • Click on the map. The graphic will be placed on the map at the specified location.


  • Use the Undo button to remove the last graphic, or the Clear All button to remove all the graphics on the map.


To Draw a Line

  • Select the Line option from the radio button list of graphic types.


  • Choose the line color, width and style.


  • Move the cursor to the first point of the line you want to draw, then click and hold the left mouse button. As you move the mouse from this location, you will see the line stretching to the current position.


  • Release the left mouse button to finish the line.


  • Use the Undo button to remove the last graphic, or the Clear All button to remove all the graphics on the map.


To Draw a Polyline

  • Select the Polyline option from the radio button list of graphic types.


  • Choose the line color, width and style.


  • Move the cursor to the first point of the line you want to draw, and click the left mouse button. As you move the mouse from this location, you will see the line stretching to the current position.


  • Move the cursor to the second point of the line. If you only want to draw one straight-line segment, double-click at this location. Otherwise click once with the left mouse button to finish the segment and start a new segment. Continue clicking at vertices to add segments.


  • Double-click the left mouse button to finish the polyline drawing.


  • Use the Undo button to remove the last graphic, or the Clear All button to remove all the graphics on the map.


To Draw a Freehand Polyline

  • Select the Freehand Polyline option from the radio button list of graphic types.


  • Choose the line color, width and style.


  • Move the cursor to the first point of the line you want to draw, then click and hold the left mouse button. As you move the mouse from this location, you will see the line following the movement of the cursor as you move the mouse.


  • Release the left mouse button to finish the drawing.


  • Use the Undo button to remove the last graphic, or the Clear All button to remove all the graphics on the map.


To Draw a Rectangle

  • Select the Rectangle option from the radio button list of graphic types.


  • Choose the fill and outline color and style.


  • Move the cursor to the first corner of the rectangle you want to draw, then click and hold the left mouse button. As you move the mouse from this location, you will see the rectangle stretching to the current position.


  • Release the left mouse button to finish the rectangle.


  • Use the Undo button to remove the last graphic, or the Clear All button to remove all the graphics on the map.


To Draw a Polygon

  • Select the Polygon option from the radio button list of graphic types.


  • Choose the fill and outline color and style.


  • Move the cursor to the first corner of the polygon you want to draw, and click the left mouse button. As you move the mouse from this location, you will see the line stretching to the current position.


  • Move the cursor to the second corner of the polygon. Continue clicking at vertices to shape the polygon.


  • Double-click the left mouse button to finish the polyline drawing.


  • Use the Undo button to remove the last graphic, or the Clear All button to remove all the graphics on the map.


To Draw a Freehand Polygon

  • Select the Freehand Polygon option from the radio button list of graphic types.


  • Choose the fill and outline color and style.


  • Move the cursor to the first point of the polygon you want to draw, then click and hold the left mouse button. As you move the mouse from this location, you will see the polygon following the movement of the cursor as you move the mouse.


  • Release the left mouse button to finish the drawing.


  • Use the Undo button to remove the last graphic, or the Clear All button to remove all the graphics on the map.


To Draw a Annotation (text)

  • Select the Annotation option from the radio button list of graphic types.


  • Enter the text to show on the map.


  • Choose the font style, color, and size.


  • Click on the map. The text graphic will be placed on the map at the specified location.


  • Use the Undo button to remove the last graphic, or the Clear All button to remove all the graphics on the map.
